2 Driving Bans in 2 Months

Hi all,
My Sister was banned in July last year for Drink/driving for 1 year, in August last year she was arrested at the roadside for driving whilst banned and took straight to court in the morning, she was banned again for 1 year and fined.
My Sister is telling us that she can drive as of August this year as her 2 bans run together, I dont think she is telling us the truth and I was wondering if anyone would know how this works, I think it would be the first ban runs the year then the next ban should then be added to add up to 2 years in total but is this true?
I would also like to state before anyone says it Yes! my Sister has been an Idiot and I do not wish to defend her actions, but we as a Family are trying to help her turn her life around hence why I am trying to find this out so we can confront the problem before it causes more trouble.
I had contacted her Solicitor who quite rightly has said he can't discuss this with me.

  • damn sisters, make sure she knows you are concerned for her wealthfare and that she must be fully licensed, insured and taxed with a car that has full mot and is in a roadworthy condition.

if she gets caught again they are going to have to throw the book at her

It's not unusual to two sentances to run together so it's quite possible the ban will be lifted in August. But, remember she can't just get into a car and start driving again, she'll have to sit an extended driving test first.

A friend of mine got banned for drink driving a couple years ago, when his ban was lifted & he got back on the road again, his insurance trebled in price, not only that but while he was banned,he had to employ someone to drive for him as he owns & runs his own taxi firm in the town.

Drink driving, driving when banned, I doubt insurance will be top of her list
It's taken me years of experience to get this cynical

Any ban usually runs from the date of conviction and this will be recorded on the licence counterpart.

The date stamped on the licence is the decider.

    Hi all,
Thanks for the replies, so by the looks of it My Sister could be in fact telling the truth....Shock!!!!
I can't believe that the 2nd ban (Driving under ban)was added 5 weeks after the original 1 year ban has only really added 5 weeks to her original 1 year drink/driving ban...What deterent is that?
