Rotten and Woodworm infested floorboards

After just moving into a property I have found that some of the joists and floorboards on the ground floor are rotten and some show signs of woodworm :(. There is also a damp problem which I suspect is causing the timber to rot.
Some of the upstairs floor boards also show signs of woodworm.
Is it worth getting a Damp and Timber survey done after the purchase of a property to determine the extent of the problems or should I just go ahead and get it fixed and treated?
I am not sure if there is a current infestation or if this is something historic. Would a surveyor be able to tell?

A full survey will tell you what and how far any problems go.

Damp can be rising or coming in from pipes or guttering or even next door !!

Woodworm can be an old infestation thats been treated or a new one thats been brought in on some 2nd hand furniture.

All rotten timber should be identified and removed.

Thats what you pay people for...for their knowledge....and a certificate to say they've fixed it. :D

No problem can withstand the assault of sustained thought.
Only after the last tree has been cut down. Only after the last fish has been caught. Only after the last river has been poisoned. Only then will you realize that money cannot be eaten.
