Bamboozled by Scottish Power

I'm currently on the online saver tariff with Scottish power paying a monthly direct debit and am at a complete loss with my latest bill. I received my first quarters bill as normal at the end of March and as expected was in debit a small amount due to the cold winter.

Since mid march the heating has practically been off as we live in a very small, but cosy semi, so was therefore expecting to eat into the debit amount with my monthly payments.

However i was horrified to receive my latest bill today which says i'm now £400 in debit! On further inspection i noticed the billing period on the statement is for January 2009 through to April 2011 and am wondering if this is what is causing the 'issue'....if only the statement of charges was clear!!!

I'm completely confused with this as the bill is simply not clear, i can't see why they are sending me a statement for such a long period, particularly when i pay monthly by direct debit and enter regular meter readings!

Has anybody else had a similar type of thing happen? Is it normal that the statements are so unclear?!

Was the March bill based on actual opening and closing readings?

The march bill was based on actual meter readings taken in January and March for both Gas and Electric!

It appears to me that Scottish Power make it up as they go along. IMO their statements are deliberately unclear. Admittedly, they are not my favourite company in the world just now so I may not be being very objective!

So on what basis are they revising your billing? Does your actual consumption from March to April reflect the new billing?
I suggest you post your figures.

    Hi creation72,

If the bill covers the period Jan 2009 to April 2011 it sounds like we have had to rebill your account to correct an error, this may be an underestimation or possibly you have been billed on the wrong tariff.

If you want to e-mail me at onlinecomplaints@scottishpower.com I can certainly have a look at this for you and see what has been happening.

    Kind regards
