Feel free to use my unused but still open number, just to get past the woman's voice (PMd it to you)
Did your online access terminate pretty much straight after you cancelled and did you check this? And was your phone disconnected right away too?
If you don't really want to use someone else's number (understandable), I'd recommend e-mailing here: executive.office@orange.co.uk
Explain that you are unable to contact via telephone (they'll e-mail back telling you to do that first otherwise) as the phone is no longer connected, succinctly explain the situation that they have failed to bill you in an appropriate manner as they have prevented you accessing the system where they have sent the bill. Request that they send a paper final bill, halt all recovery action, and remove any and all negative strikes on your credit file with immediate effect. You can also threaten with legal action for defamation I believe...
Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.

Thanks both for the very helpful info/advice. And thanks for the PM Naf, I will give it a try and evade the automated woman!

I did check my online account access within a week of cancelling my contract and it had been terminated. My phone was also disconnected within 3 or 4 days exactly as my new network Vodafone told me it would be because I took my number with me. I had come across the executive email address in my searches in the last few hours and after your advice I will get on emailing them right now. You've made me feel better, thanks! :)
