New bathroom florescent light is horrible! Any suggestions on bulb or replace?

We had a new bathroom light fitted today and the light it puts out is horrible. I've never seen anything so white in all my life and it just about blinds you when you turn it on (after all the flickering if it doesn't induce a seizure).

Anyways, what can we do now? This fitting is a low-level fitting (not flush with the ceiling and the bulb is one of those florescent ones. I should say that the bulb appears to be of the 2D type. I don't know the wattage, but it's so bright I think I might go blind checking!

All suggestions welcome! thanks!

The bathroom light is similar to this. Should we just get a new one? that's the last time I'm out when something new is fitted!

Why not just change the bulb for a lower rating? It would help if you said what the existing one is-surely you checked the rating before buying it?

I wish I'd been the one to buy it, but alas no.

It was installed by an electrician without our say as we only knew that he would be coming to check it, not to replace it. It looks to me like a 2D, but I'll have to take it apart to see. I wish they'd leave instructions!

The rating will be on the box, if he left it.

2D bulbs come in different colours as well as power ratings. Look for a "warm white" one, as the one one you have is probably "cool white".
