1&1 bad customer service

Options
I have a number of domains registered with 1&1 In March they sent me a reminder for paymentof £7.18 I checked my paypal and entered my new debit card details. I emailed 1&1 told them what I had done and asked them to let me know if they were still having problems collecting the payment.
I heard nothing until today when I received a letter from a debt recovery firm:mad:
I am disgusted with 1&1 when I called them they said they had phoned me and sent a letter through the post..no they didn't:mad:

I just needed to say that, thanks.

There are a lot of similar stories about 1&1 on the internet

I got threatening a year after cancelling a service but they eventually went away.
  • Im going though a similar thing with 1and1.

Had 4 domain names with them that i canceled. They say they sent a renewal notice which they didn't and are now chasing for payment although the domains are canceled. I will never use 1and1 again, just waiting for the debt letters to start rolling in. Their customer services are shocking and don't listen to a word you say.

I registered a domain name for free, along with an email address for 69p per month, which they say on their site is payable annually as a single payment in advance. I soon found out that I was only able to have a single page website which is no good to me, so I cancelled the entire package. A couple of days later £16.56 was taken from my Paypal account - TWO YEARS worth of email payments. I just thought, oh, ok, I may as well keep the email package. Then I discovered that I wasn't able to use the email address. Upon querying this with 1&1, they informed me that "the effectivity date of the cancelation will be on the 6th of June 2013. However, your cancellation was made after the renewal on the 7th of June 2011 and as such you are still invoiced"

So, if my cancellation doesn't take effect until 2013, how come I no longer have my email address?

I am still awaiting a reply from them regarding this.

This seems a suitable subject for Martin Lewis to look into, not just 1&1, but domain providers in general, what with the proliferation of 'newbie' amateur website owners these days.

    OK, rant over! :o

Edited to add: The only way I could find their 'Cancellation Page' was by doing a Google search, I found a forum poster (totally unrelated to 1&1) who had provided a link! Also, their Help section was anything but helpful
