Is it illegal to hold 2 pet insurance policies?

 Hello there - i have 2 dogs and found that my insurance with Churchill was not very good. So i then took out lifetime cover with John Lewis. I did not get around to cancelling the first policy with churchill. My dog has now hurt its leg and after xrays, they think that it is spondilosis (a spinal condition) and probably pre existing so not covered with the NEW policy. To find out if it is pre existing i need my dog to have an MRI £1700!!! If its a pre existing condition this will not be covered with John Lewis. My question is - can i hedge my bets - go ahead and have the MRI and then if it is Pre existing, place a claim with churchills. If it is deemed that the condition happened as a result of an injury - I will be covered with my new policy - and hence john lewis will pay for all the treatment my dog will need. I have not made any claims yet and am loathed to go ahead with the MRI incase i am told when i make a claim with either policy that i am not coverered because i hold 2 policies. PLEASE NOTE THAT I DO NOT INTEND TO CLAIM TWICE - I WILL DECIDE WHICH POLICY TO GO WITH ONCE I KNOW THE OUTCOME OF THE MRI.

Yes, the police are coming to cart you off to prison. :p

You can have as many policies as you like as long as you don't claim for the same thing on more than one. You should be able to do what you are wanting to do, I think.

When claiming you need to check if there is a question on the claim form relating to any other policy providing cover. If there is, and you answer no, then effectively you are providing fraudulent information to the insurer.

If there is dual insurance then each insurer will pay a portion of the claim.
