2 x lots of child tax credits paid

Options
Hi

I have just checked my online bank statement, and I have received two lots of payments for child tax credits.

One, the normal amount of £44.40 was paid in on 25th May. I have checked back, and this is what I have been getting on a monthly basis.

Then I got another payment of £33.26, which was paid in on 26th May.

I am a single mum, but I work and earn in excess of £34,000, so the only 'proper' benefit I have ever received is child benefit. I've not paid much notice to these tax credit things, but it worries me when I see a double payment. Should I be worried? I don't want to get landed with a bill from them....

Perfectly normal to get multiple payments in April/May and sometimes June. We've got paid two lots of WTC last month and this month - seems to be the same every year. I think they're just adjustment payments.

Oh, thanks, hammyman. I lurk around these forums all the time and wouldn't want a 'we have have paid you too much' thing. Cheers!

Have you renewed recently? If so, then it might be a 'post renewal' adjustment, as I've heard that the system kicks out a random payment every time an adjustment is made.

Nope, no renewal or anything......just curious as to why they should give me two payments....... thanks for all of your comments, especially AnxiousMum, cos everyone thinks we are one and the same! Hope everything is going OK for you and yours xx

hehe, thanks A_M :) Did you get any 'extra payment' earlier in the year? There was alot of talk on here about people getting letters about possibly getting an extra payment - something to do with adjusting the system for the new tax year......but I thought that all would've happened prior to the end of the tax year!

Stick it aside for a few days - you'll no doubt receive paperwork in a week or so to tell you what it is for!

It's a shame the paper work isn't as quick as the payment, then this board would be quieter this time of the year ;)

Ooops, sorry, I didn't realise this was something that happens at this time of the year. You're right though, only_mee, it would be nice if they sent us the letter first rather than me wondering why they've paid over the usual amount, and expecting them to want it back. I never did believe in free stuff!
