Telephone calls to banks

Hi - a quick query does anyone know the legal minimum time a bank has to keep records of phone calls from consumers?

Hi there,

They don't have to record conversations, and there are no such time limits for those that do under the Data Protection Act 1988.

Thanks - so there is no legal obligation for them to provide phone recordings if there is a complaint being investigated by Financial Ombudsman Service (when they did say to me that they had copies of recordings)?

Normally they wouldnt provide the actual calls as they need to provide protection for the advisor however they may have transcripts of the calls though.

They dont have to legally record calls in the first place.

DPA says records shouldnt be kept for longer than necessary.
