transferring car registration

I recently bought a second hand car and agreed to transfer the existing number back to the sellers new car.
I've got the updated documentation - new reg. no, new road tax disc, number plate authorisation certificate, and MOT.
Problem is that I won't be changing the actual plate on my car for a few weeks as going into hospital for op.
Do I tell the insurance company of change of reg. now, or when I actually change the plates.

Since everything has come through, I would do it all before going into hospital if possible.

If vehicle is on the road then the physical plate and insurance needs to be changed asap. If you are keeping car off road (in garage etc) from now until you come out of hospital then you till need to tell insurance asap but could wait to change physical plates til you come out.

Received the documents today, and going into hospital tomorrow.
    Sod's law!
Hopefully, I can get someone to get the plates changed next week, and then contact the insurance company.
