and there was me thinking the thread was on the estimated Costs of running a home. oh sorry it's Dervprof moving the goalposts again. ok then...
Well the headline was about household bills, but Graham opened the discussion with......
"Even with interest rates as low as they are, which initially reduced the cost of running a home, inflation is now playing catch up."
He mentioned inflation playing catch up. I simply mentioned a few things that do relate to the headline inflation figure. And normally, when you run a home, you have to eat, and will often have to travel around too.30 Year Challenge : To be 30 years older. Equity : Don't know, don't care much. it was only a couple of posts back, it can't be that hard to remember...Graham_Devon wrote: »It won't affect those costs.0 -

I can't identify with those costs. Only the council tax one looks right, the rest are way off, either much too high or much too low.
I see your point Graham. Excluding mortgages, everything else increased by about 11% altogether so it's only low interest rates that are cushioning the rises so that people haven't noticed them (if you believe these figures are typical anyway). Once rates do rise, whenever that is, the overall increase will go sky high as there will be nothing to cancel out the rises.0 -
chucky was quick to jump onto Graham's point that he made about despite IRs being low, household costs are increasing. He stated that household costs (based on the estimates) had only gone up 1.4% in the past 12 months, and because that was below the headline inflation figure, it was "happy days".
Not such "happy days" for pensioners who often rely on their savings. Hardly "happy days" every time we fill our tanks with fuel. Not "happy days" for those who may want to take a foreign holiday.
And not "happy days", as the article suggests that the rate of increase is increasing.30 Year Challenge : To be 30 years older. Equity : Don't know, don't care much. Savings : That's asking for ridicule.0 -
such kind words...Graham_Devon wrote: »Take a break chucky.
so would increasing BoE rates reduce the cost all of the other items on your list?0 -
