PPI on overdraft Barclays

About 4 years ago upon increasing an overdraft i was forced to take PPI at a rate per every hundred pounds of the overdraft with Barclays. I later tried to cancel this PPI as i was able to stay easily within the overdraft limits and never really needed it. To be told a couple of times it had to stay on. I did agree to it originally. Is this something that is reclaimable? It came to about £30 a month for years.

Firstly, they should have always made it clear it was optional. Were you 'forced' to have it or was it just strongly recommended?
I've seen this complained about before. It does seem quite a pointless product and it looks to me like Barclays were just trying to expand their vast PPI empire.
Maybe I've missed something but if you lose you're job or if you can't work due to illness, you can just stay in your overdraft! Its not like loan or mortgage payments that have to be met.
I've seen successful refunds for this, although I'm not sure if its because the amounts involved aren't worth contesting for Barclays or if the products just a waste of time.
I suspect a bit of both.0 -
Forced was never optional but wanted the overdraft so took it with a view of removing it soon as possible. Was between 6-4 years ago i am currently getting my statements which will show how long. It cost 80p per £100 and was agreed online with a box being ticked (i could not remove the option if i wanted it) and was explained to me as insurance for losing job. I took the hit of the being overdrawn charge also which there is no reclaiming. So the question is were they allowed to force the charge ontop? When looked into it was PPI and a couple of yrs ago it seemed funny when for the fourth/fifth time i phoned they suddenly took it off without an arguement after they had been adamant a couple of weeks previous that it needed to stay on.0

I would be interested to hear what happens for you, as I had the same thing myself. As long as I had this I was allowed to extend my overdraft further and furtehr. As soon as I managed to get it removed, they weren't interested in further limit increases. Thansk to this I have a whopping 4750 overdraft on my personal account (which I am not using btw!)0
