what to re vamp bathroom tiles with

Has anyone got any ideas on what to do with horrible bathroom tiles. The tiles have been walloped with emulsion from previous owner, every time I try to clean them it keeps flaking off, big pain in the butt. Have thought about tile paints but they can be quite expensive for such small tins. The room is 12 x 10 and tiled floor to ceiling, so I am going to need a lot of paint. It has been suggested to use Gloss or Bathroom paint with a varnish in. Not sure if these would work. Any ideas would be most appreciated as I can't afford to have the whole thing re done just yet.

Tile paint is an expensive waste of time. you should be able to scrape the flaking paint off or use a water based paint stripper (no nasty fumes) and then as long as they are not loose you can tile over the old tiles - should keep cost down0

Have you tried plastic panelling? Clips together and no-nails straight over the tile.

Cost me £40 for 8 ft by 5ft, we did a shower enclosure as the tiles were badly moulded.0
