Hi, i'm new to this so hope i've posted in the right place, if not, sorry!!!
. I was wondering if anyone has any cheap uk holiday ideas??
My partner was recently diagnosed with a slow growing tumour in his ear. Although, thankfully, this is not life threatening, he is awaiting an op to remove it and will be unable to fly for 4 months afterwards. so we cant go abroad this summer.
We've had quite a tough 12 months so are all in need of a holiday (although part of the reason the last year has been tough was money so it needs to be cheap lol) I now have a much better job and doubled my salary 6 months ago so we're in a better place but still dont want to break the bank.
We have 2 girls aged 8 and 2 so its quite difficult to find things to suit both age groups (although the youngest is usually qute happy to go with the flow).
any suggestions would be a great help!!

It would help to know where you are starting from and if you have a car and how far in terms of time / distance you are willing to travel.
The advice if you live in Glasgow might be very different to the advice if you live in Dover!0 -
sorry, lol, yeah that would help!!
We live in manchester and have a car. We could go anywhere in the uk but would ideally like to keep travelling time under about 5-6 hours (travelling with a toddler is no fun)!!
thanks0 -
From Manchester the world is your lobster!
The most obvious suggestion is the Lake District, quick blast up the motorway and always makes for a really nice holiday. Same applies to Snowdonia, both lovely parts of the UK. Lots of holiday cottages / cheap hotels / premier inn's in the area.
Further afield, there's the Northumberland Coast, which I'm a bit too familiar with as I'm there every other week, but great to visit if you haven't been.
If you're wanting to stretch your legs even further then straight up the motorway to the west coast of Scotland.
Lake District would be my choice I think0 -
I agree about the Lake District. You might consider using a Youth Hostel for your accommodation. You can get family rooms, some are en suite, and use of kitchen so you could do self catering, cheaper than B & B and buying meals out. Windermere is beautiful. The Derbyshire Peak District would also be a possibility. YHA.org.uk

Have a look at https://www.directholidayhomes.co.uk or https://www.caravans4let.co.uk for owners of private ( mostly caravans) accommodation in the UK normally cheaper than booking with a park direct even taking into account buying the entertainment passes0

Good luck to your partner with his op. Agree with all here 6 hours from Mankchester can get you to most places . the Lakes are great . The Peaks are on your doorstep and maybe too close. I am a fan of around skipton area too a good base and within a few attractions for your kids. When mine were that age i always prefered a caravan cottage type hol than a hotel b&b type so the kids could let off steam and you dont worry about the people in the next room(same visa versa);) . What about Blackpool kids love the fair beaches etc. Snowdonia my suit you & your partner ,much more chilled . Great drives 2hr. from Mankchester, lots to do . very relaxed beaches and drives/walks with history. show me a 8 yo thats not into castles. hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world :cool:0

Thanks for al your replies, given me some stuff to consider!!
lol @ greenface, they both love castles, forts, ruins etc (which is strange because I loathed being dragged to places like that as a chilld). Snowdonia sounds like a good idea, can combine holiday with a bit of education then (sneakily so they dont realise they are being educated haha)
thanks again, will look nto all the suggestions!!0 -
Inside 3 hours Dumfries and Galloway is within easy reach. Loads to do rain or shine....sandy beaches, lovely coast, hills, lochs, castles. Plenty for young kids too, a child-friendly animal sanctuary called Mossburn near Lockerbie, a play farm at Dumfries.
If you want a day out on a big ship, you could visit Northern Ireland from the port of Stranraer. Either stay on board (cheaper non-landing ticket) or get on a coach and visit the Giants Causeway or maybe Belfast, then get a later return ferry back to Stranraer. Alternatively you could get the Calmac ferry from Ardrossan in Ayrshire and go to the Isle of Arran for the day.
There are loads of B'n'Bs to choose from or take your pick of the many self-catering properties. Redcastle has four farm cottages near Haugh of Urr or maybe better for children there is Barncrosh Leisure which has about ten cottages/flats/houses or barn conversions each sleeping between 2 & 12 people on a farm complex near Castle Douglas, available at discount weekly rates within 28 days of start dates. They have a tennis court, adventure playground, football pitch, plus indoor games room for when it's wet. Good website for online availability and booking too.Never trust a financial institution.

We're off to Paignton (Goodrington) again this year, going to Hoburne Torbay for the second year running.
Theres 3 companies on the site that rent to you outwith the actual Hoburne group, used 1 last year and a different one this year.
Prices includes passes, gas and electric.
Older caravans, my own experience and reviews I've read say they are clean and tidy.
The great thing is the prices.
The 3 companies i'm aware of are Arden, Walkers and H & H. There may be more on the site (and Hoburne themselves).
Not had much of a look at it yet, but http://www.lotstodo.co.uk/ is all about the local area.0 -
we go to horburne torbay each year
we used H & H, and Walkers, and horburne, good service from all of them,
beach is 10 mins walk, walk from there into paignton about 20 mins
there is the zoo, a few farms, 2 different stream trains,
childrens theme park "woodlands"
if u walk around the bays there is a seal that lives in one of them
if weather is good its great
bee going for last 15 years
but they are not cheap holidays, it normally costs more than m8's who go to spain etc0
