I think it was a furniture shop before, does this mean I need to change it do a general licence? or is the furniture under general?
I'm afraid I have no idea about this kind of thing. But it's something you need to check out with the local council (although things may be different north of the border).

i would be cautious, my friend opened a new shop in tottenham 18 months ago, to say business is bad is an understatement, his previous shop went well and he is very talented, btu 70k pa is dreaming in this climate, i know that a lot of the other shops are making money elsewhere and laundering it through the business(i used to work in a hydroponics shop :-) ) as tattoo is a cash business, good luck

The shop you have seen will be classed as A1 which is retail. It will be fine. Would a furniture shop not be too big though?

I would imagine the public liability insurance could be pretty hefty.

Keep in mind also that a tattoo shop is driven by reputation. I'd never have a tattoo done by someone I haven't heard of, haven't seen their work around, nobody has recommended to me, etc.

I'd suggest getting a chair in an established business and build up your reputation there, so you can move on to start your own business in a few years once you've established a good name and have repeat customers and referrals. Otherwise I'd say you're doomed to fail, unfortunately.

i would not be investing my money in a shop atm , people dont have the disposable cash they had a few years back, as starryshell suggested rent a chair in an established business for a while and see how that goes first, its a trade that has had its day now and only the good seem to be surviving the recession, good luck whatever you decide to do

I would also be aware that a vacuum autoclave ,if you are going that way, will cost around £4000 on its own, so even renting will have its costs.

I don't need an autoclave, I use all disposables. I checked with enviromental health, they said I don't require one if its all disposables

Thanks to everyone to your good advice, its been really helpful. I have decided to just go round shops and see if they have space for me, and work my way from there. Thanks to all again, I think I would have been jumping in at the deep end with a shop. I'm glad I went here first
