If I read the RC website website correctly you will be billed in sterling and there won't be a 3% charge whatever card you use.

You will be at the mercy of their exchange rates though.

From what ive read they give you a poor exchange rate for sterling and its best to pay in there currency dollars and they are cards that don't charge for exchange rate for doing so if its wrong card you can be charged as much as 3%

I was on a RC ship 3 weeks' ago. If you check in on line (and print off your Sailaway Ticket) you are asked to register the card you propose to settle your bill with. You are also asked whether you would like the ship's rate for conversion or your bank's rate - I opted for my bank's rate. When you check in at Southampton your card will be swiped then.

I also rang my bank to let them know that I was in Europe but also asked them to log that I was in America - as RC is American owned line that's where any payment shows up as being from. On my first ever cruise I didn't know this and my card was declined. It was eventually authorised but I just don't like the hassle. Off to Norway on Saturday with P&O and shall be telling my bank I'll be in Norway and America as P&O (owned by Carnival) is also American.
