British Gas confusion...
Hi. I'm on Websaver 7 which is ending on July 1st.
I need to switch or I end up on the standard tariff, but I'm unsure which one is best or whether to switch suppliers altogether.
I did a price comparison on Uswitch and a couple of others but they all said I was on the best price with WS7.
According to the BG themselves I currently pay £1020 p.a for both and the cheapest quote they give me is £1148 which I have to stick on until October 2012!!! I am not really happy about that, why such a long time?
Why does it have to be so confusing, I was happy as I was and now I'm having to mess about finding out which is going to be cheapest, I really don't get why there needs to be so many different tariffs for one company and what is the difference between them anyway?
I don't understand the difference between WS12 and Online Saver 4...
Can anyone shed some light on this, I'm thinking of switching altogether especially as i'm peed off that they didn't pay me Nectar points for my first bill (well, first one since Nectar was part of it).

I think the main difference is the level of discount and whether there is a cancellation fee.
Online Saver 4 gives a guaranteed 4% discount over the BG standard rates until 31st October 2012, but doesn't appear to have any cancellation fee if you decide to leave it before then.
Websaver 12 is a guaranteed 6% discount until the same date, but has cancellation fees of £30 per fuel if you decide to change.
Have you actually contacted them and asked about the Nectar points? I wouldn't think it's that hard an issue for them to fix...I am an employee of British Gas, however the views expressed on this post are mine and do not necessarily reflect the views of Centrica, its subsidiaries or affiliated companies.0 -

Just picking up on the Nectar thing, why are you !!!!ed off? Have you even read how the British Gas Nectar scheme works. They do not give points based on your bill. They gives points once a quarter for what products you have with them. So for example, if you have gas with them, they give you 50 points a quarter. If you have electricity too, you'll have 100 points a quarter. And it's not issued when a bill comes out. The points are issued every quarter and the date is dependant on your start date with British Gas.Let us create a better world for the next generation.

Online Saver 4 - this tariff only applies to customers who choose to go onto EnergySmart - a monthly billing system where BG will ask for a meter reading to be submitted by the customer once a month online, and will produce a monthly statement instead of a quarterly statement. The tariff gives a 4% discount over the standard prices. No cancellation charges or tie ins
Websaver 12 - an internet based tariff where customers must pay by direct debit. This has a saving of 6% and has cancellation charges of £30 per fuel until May 2012.Let us create a better world for the next generation.

Hope you don`t mind me jumping in to your posting.
Could I please ask a question, I currently pay BG £70 a month by DD on Click 6 or whatever its called. On the amount of gas I use would the 4% on Online Save 4 - work out similar to 6% if you add on the £30 cancellation charge evening it out over the year. Not realy sure how to work it out. Don`t know if I want to be tied in, but want the best offer and I need to make a decison by 1st June.
Hope this makes sense. Many thanks0
