cancelled line rental reactivation?

Hi,

At my old house we had broadband provided by AOL, and our line rental provided by talktalk.

When I moved out all of this was cancelled.

I'm going to be back again for 4 months and want broadband.

I think I still have a BT socket but can't check as I'm not there, would talktalk have been likely to change this?

I was looking at plusnet and they say they can active my phone service within 4 days and give me a new number and then set up broadband,
but only if I have a bt socket.

If it turns out I don't have a BT socket what are my options?
or if I wanted to order broadband without line rental included how would I go about this?

thanks,

    1. If you were with Talk Talk you will have a BT socket - doesn't get removed -they just terminate the connection at the exchange.
    2. Only ways you can have broadband without a BT line are via mobile dongle or Virgin cable.
    3. Plusnet may be promising 4 days - but be aware that they are dependent on BT OpenReach for installation who tend to be unreliable on timescales.
    4. You will be tied in to a 12 month rentalcontract for the line when installed as far as I'm aware.

And you will have to pay a reconnection charge of up to £130.00-not sure what Plusnet are currenty quoting for reconnections?
With that and a minimum 12m contract, you'd be advised to make other arrangements.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
