I'm not on anyone's 'side'. But if you see an item you want to buy in Tesco today, do you expect them to reserve it for you for 5 weeks? It's no different with utility companies.
Your ETC period ends 4 weeks from today, so if you switch now you should have no penalty-if in doubt wait another 5 days or so and hope the tarif is still available.
Finding the best tariff using a comp site is a 5 minute job, why is that a struggle?

Totally agree. Well said. Utility companies (quite rightly) get it in the neck a lot, but this is one issue I cannot really see how someone can moan. Read the terms and conditions, simple.

Ok i am thick I get the message.

Would welcome a survey as to how many people think it is a five minute job to do a proper comparrison.

You say Tesco will not sell someting for five weeks ahead, holiday companies do? is it so hard as they have a number they will give the rate to to tick the box as another one sold starting in 5 weeks. but it is the same if I phone in 2 days before the finish, they would still charge the exit fee (its in the terms)
If it it that easy why are the utility companies being told to alter the way they price it?
Sorry it must be someting in the water because EVERYONE i speak to says its a rip off, daily standing charge or non, so many units at this price the rest at a lower price, tied in for months some price held other a minimum 2% below standard, but you start at around 10% below standard then at some point put it up with a price increase then increase it at the same time to the minimum 2% below giving a very big increase. But as you both say ITS IN THE TERMS.
Good luck, wish I had your money as you both do not seem to care that because they are in the terms and conditions does not make it fair, but again who says they have to be?

Well them's the rules!!!!! If it's in the t&c's, it kinda is fair, it's just up to you whether you read 'em or not!

Yes you can buy a holiday months ahead, but to do so you have to pay a deposit-would you be prepared to pay a deposit to 'reserve' your utility contract? It's not the same thing.
Comp sites: I just did a 'proper' comparison on both uswitch and enegyhelpline: armed with my annual kWh figs, each one took less than one minute to produce the results. So you're actually quite correct-it's not a 5 minute job.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

I hope the pair of you enjoy working for the utility company.
It seems very strange the way when one answers the other pops up, bit like the bully with the side kick!!

If it takes you one minute to work out your yearly supply well done.

I do hope that if both of you purchased PPI you do not claim because it is the terms and conditions, must be correct if the terms and conditions say so , o hold on this site was one who fought to get the banks to pay it back? why?:T it is in the terms and conditions.

I suggest as both of you are so happy with the utility companies you look at other threads about them, put the little and large show into other threads and will be interested in the reaction you get.

Still I have said my point, but as you are so for them and of course they cannot sell a product 2 days to 6 weeks in advance please explain how if a customer moves from supplier A to B for a fixed price deal, supplier B will not be charging the new customer for at least 4 weeks and maybe 8 weeks as this is the time it takes to move account. So what is the differance if supplier A keeps the existing customer and allows the new rate to kick in when the old one expires. I KNOW ITS IN THE TERMS!!:rotfl:

Well, i am point blank refusing any cancellation charges from Scottish Power, the cancellation charges come to more than my actual bill, i may be the first to go to court if they pursue it.
    Owed out = lots.
