Glass splashback query..

We ordered a made to measure black glass splashback. When it arrived there was a scratch on the back of it, and a piece of the black paint had chipped off in the middle of the glass (you could see right through this area)
I pointed this out and they siad they would 'send it back and get it resprayed at the back'. A day later they have called to say its ready for collection.
Im not really sure how these are made. I know its toughened glass as they told me the first one cracked during the toughening process. What I dont know is if the paint at the back is applied before or after the tougheneing process, as one day would not have been time for them to send it away and for this to be done and sent back.
I suspect that they have just 'touched it up' themselves with some black paint instead of sending it back to the place that made it, and im wondering if it could be liable to peel due to heat/condensation, or be visable when I stick it on the wall if its just toughed up.
Anyone in the business or whos had a coloured splashback tell me if this 'repair' is likely to be OK, or should I be expecting a replacement?
Thanks.

The glass is toughened first and then it is painted afterwards. Tempering glass involve heating it up to around 720 degrees and then cooling it very quickly. Paint would melt off the glass if it was painted before tempering...
Next day sounds about right for a respray. Depending on the size of the glass, allow a couple of hours for respraying and 8-12 hours for drying...If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

Thanks Meepster, at least its reassuring that the paint goes on after.
They had to send away for it as they dont make coloured splashbacks at their workshop.
I went to collect it noon tuesday (thats when I noticed the marks) they called me 10.30 this morning (wednesday) saying its been delivered back and ready for me, which is whats making me suspicious they have not had time to send it back, but tried to paint it themselves.
(Either that or very good fast service and im just getting paranoid!:rotfl:)
As long as its OK and does the job i'll be happy.0 -
Hi
It sounds like the company isn't a glass splash back specialist. The company we use for glass splash backs puts foil on the back of the glass after painting, this protects the paint finish and prevents any possibility of the existing wall colouring being visible through the glass.

Just some followup, went to collect the splashback, it has now been repainted where the paint had come off and they have added a foil back too!
It was also wrapped in bubble wrap (last time it was unprotected apart from the front and corners) They said that 'sometimes they do put foil on the back'...(Im assuming that the foil should have been on in the first place!) Anyway, although you can see 'blobs' of extra paint on the back where they have repaired it, it looks good from the front and its up on the wall behind my hob at last!0
