JSA+Crisis Loan please help

Hello all

Last thursday i started my jsa application over the phone. Had an interview with an advisor on friday, and signed on (where they check your book about looking for work etc) on Tuesday.
Can i expect a payment this week?

Also, This friday my mum and sister are going on holiday for a week. I am not going as i cannot afford too, and my mum has already said she cannot afford to leave me money for food, gas, electric etc and take spending money on holiday.

Do you think i will be eligible for a crisis loan? what should i say when i phone up tomorrow.

All help very much appreciated,

Thank you

If you have no funds to meet your immediate living expenses you can apply for a Crisis Loan as an alignment to benefit. Tell them you would like to apply for an alignment to benefit. They will ask you questions about what other sources of support are available. Ultimately it is at their discretion whether or not they accept that your mother would leave you in that position.

It is pretty unlikely you'll get any money this week unfortunately. I honestly cannot believe any mother would see her child go with food and heating!! Are you honestly saying that the cupboards will be bare? No beans, no pasta, no cereal...? I assume you are on a meter? A fiver is all that is needed for a week! I think an advisor will be as disbelieving as I am.

    I agree.

Mum going away on holiday and leaves nothing for her son that has just started a JSA claim?!

Why not be proactive rather than getting into debt for a short-term emergency?

Perhaps ask your friends, relatives and neighbours if they require any odd-jobs doing? Mowing the lawn, simple painting, dog-walking are possible ideas which could easily prove worthwhile. Obviously you must inform the authorities of any money earned but such attempts at obtaining employment could have unexpected results like someone offering work to a lad who is willing to go out of his way to avoid starvation and getting into debt.

Go for it and show how capable you are.
