Charges for processing your claim?

Have other people been charged £10 for processing their claims? I am so furious - I sent off my claim and have now got my original letter back saying that I have to go into a Natwest branch to have my signature verified - even though I have banked there for 12 years!!
I think this is a delaying tactic and of course it has taken them three weeks to get back to me.
Anyone else have this problem?

what claim?
It you mean complaint then the complaints process is free of charge and you should not be charged. However, if you have requested data to be sent to you then they can charge £10 for that.have now got my original letter back saying that I have to go into a Natwest branch to have my signature verified - even though I have banked there for 12 years!!

Its not likely a delaying tactic as since the banks won the court case, they reject most bank charge complaints and the FOS wont look at them unless its under financial hardship criteria. So, there is no real reason for them to drag their heels.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. There is no charge for processing a claim but it sounds like you have sent a Subject Access request asking for your data held with them so yes there is a £10 charge for that. If you banked with them for 12 years then perhaps your signature has changed a little from what they will orginally have on their records?0

Surely you should be happy that they are taking security of your information seriously? We've spent decades teaching people about their rights, but nothing about their responsibilities.0

Silbies, if the address NatWest hold for you is correct then the only part that is a delay is the issue of payment of the £10. The ICO would back your corner on a complaint IF the fee had been paid(that needs to be done) and the bank send you current statements to your address on their own records(since they don't send them recorded delivery).
If you simply want 6 years worth of statements then go to online banking since if you are registered you can print out the data without need to send £10 to the bank which is based on the fee under the Data Protection Act 1998.Once they receive the fee they have 40 days to comply with the DPA request. The bank charges case was not under the DPA but as Dunstonh has stated they will currently only deal with financial hardship cases under the Lending Code, section 9.http://www.lendingstandardsboard.org.uk/docs/lendingcode.pdf
