Please can someone help me
Today i recieved a call from Cash Genie saying that i owe them 120.00, i asked them where this had came from, apparently back in 1st July 2009 i took out a pay day loan for 120.00 i rolled over this until the following month and so say paid 36.00 interest, i then done this again the following month, cash genie have said that they had a big error on there system that wiped my account and so never collected the full amount of 120.00, they are now hastling me wanting me to pay this 120.00. but why has it taken 2 years? well they said that they are going through old accounts. what shall i do? do i pay them the money? i do not remember this at all, and have requested bank statements around this time to see if the transactions are correct? but in the mean time have i got to pay them the 120.00 if this is correct as this is an error on thier side? or do i ignore them? please help i just dont know what to do. Kaylie

Did you take the loan out?0

Just tell them that you are looking into their claims but as it is 2 years old it will take a little time to obtain the paperwork to prove/disprove it. It is probably best to have a date to give them. In the mean time you will not be making a payment as you are not 100% satisfied you owe them.
Should it be real I suspect you are liable for the debt and you will have to pay it. Others may advise on relevent laws.
However I would pay nothing until you are certain you have not paid it previously. If paying it will cause you hardship you can try to negotiate a payment plan with them as the whole issue is their fault and they should be flexible.
It is possible that if they still have your details they might try and take the money from your account now they have informed you of the debt. Maybe others can advise what you can do in this case.
EMI think opinions should be judged of by their influences and effects, and if a man holds none that tend to make him less virtuous or more vicious, it may be concluded that he holds none that are dangerous; which I hope is the case with me.0 -
Any idea how they plucked your name out of the blue to contact you about it??
Of course you need to be certain it is yours, I'm sure I would have remembered taking out a loan a couple of years ago but be sure in any case.
If it is genuine you should be doing some kind of Stavros Flatley style jig around the room that they are only asking for the £120 and not a whole pile of charges on top.
If the loan is genuine, it really was up to you to ensure it was repaid on time.0 -

thank you for your responses, im not sure if i had the loan, i dont remember ever having it. im not sure why this has taken two years though and that is what is puzzling me. has anyone had dealing with this company? i have contacted the bank and they have already tried to take the money on numerous occasions but have been unable to get the payment due to the account's card being cancelled. when i phoned them and asked for the details to be put in writing to me they declined and said that instead they would call me in a few days to confirm if i have the bank statements.0

.... when i phoned them and asked for the details to be put in writing to me they declined and said that instead they would call me in a few days to confirm if i have the bank statements.
Personally I wouldn't pay anybody, anything, on the basis of a telephone call. I'd write to them along the lines of ... Dear Sirs, regarding your recent telephone calls of the xth May ... I understand that you believe that I owe you £100 ... as far as I'm concerned I don't owe you anything .... could you please reply and explain precisely why and how you believe this debt has arisen ....
If they declined to put their demand in writing, I'd decline to pay them.0 -
Surely you should know if you did or didn't?
Strange that they have your contact details and bank details if you didn't. I suspect you remember getting some kind of loan or you would point blank refuse to pay it. I know when/if I borrow some money from a bank/company or not.
