Hi
I have a HTC Desire and am getting a message that the SD Card is Mounted and Read only. I have tried switching the phone on and off again and that hasn't worked.
I read that the card might need "fixing" so I've tried to connect the phone to my laptop (running Vista) but Vista won't recognise it. In "My Computer" it is there as removable disk D but when I try to open it, it keeps asking me to insert a disk into Drive D.
I've tried opening up the phone and taking the card out and putting it back in again but still no luck.
Help!

"Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it. Don't wait for it. Just let it happen. It could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot black coffee."

There is no locking mechanism on micro SD cards.
Take the card out and put it in the SD adaptor, plug that straight into the PC and try to format/scan whatever.0 -

Hi
I don't have an adapter so I've been trying to use the USB connection but although the phone is there on the computer, I can't open up the drive. I've tried on my desktop as well which is Ubuntu.
I'm worried about losing data and the option to reformat the SD card is greyed out on the screen. (Dumb question - if I restore to factory settings, will I lose all the apps?)"Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it. Yes you'll lose apps but I don't see a restore helping anyway.
SD adaptors are normally free with a lot of micro cards so you could buy another.
There are ways to backup apps but I guess if you knew how you wouldn't be asking this question.
I would use the opportunity to buy a new class 6 card (with adaptor) . You can use that to plug the old one in your pc and chkdsk it.0 -
Oh you are on an android device aren't you? Are you on android 2.2?
When you connect your phone to the computer check your phone. Drag the notification bar down and tap on 'USB Connected' then tap 'Turn on USB Storage' then tap 'OK' and give your PC few seconds to think, it should work now hopefully.
Oh and as for your concern about losing apps if you factory reset. You can install a free app from the android market called Titanium Backup. This will store your apps and their respective data onto an SD card (you will need another working one). When you factory reset your phone you then install Titanium backup again and restore all your apps from the SD card. I've done it this week and it works a treat.0
