Nationwide Internet Banking

Hi all
I know there is a nationwide topic about internet banking but this is a separate question that i cant find the answer to, when logging in today a screen popped up saying that is was checking additional information and seeing if im using the same computer as normal, it was a scan type thing by macfee, ive never seen this before and it told me that im not using the correct computer (although i am) it asked me to put my card in the reader to confirm who i was, i dont have it at work so closed the page.
I now get the message saying my account is locked for online access and to call 08457 302010, which i did, only to be told that they know nothing about this extra security and my PC must have a virus or i have clicked a rogue link in an email, which I didnt, also they said not to log in with my current PC and to use my normal PC (again which i am) to log in and change all my detail.
Anyone else have this scan thing come up cause nationwide dont seem to have a clue
Cheers

Just logged on and off again with no problem and certainly no messages such as you received.0

Very odd, never seen this before or heard of this on Nationwide's website. Can I suggest downloading a browser like Google Chrome which isn't likely to support this verification stuff and try logging in through that? It does look legit, but perhaps something thats installed by McAfee instead of something provided by Nationwide. Do you use McAfee as your antivirus/firewall? If so then again, its likely to be legit but indeed very odd.0

Yes we do used McAfee at work but have always used that, it seems wierd as the spelling is american, i cant really install chrome as its a work PC and already have firefox and explorer. Even if it is my firewall at work, how would it manage to actually get nationwide to block my account??:beer:0

That is NOT genuine. Your computer must have some virus, spyware, malware, adware, badware, whatever you want to call it.
Make sure you run a full scan of your computer and change any passwords that may have been compromised.how would it manage to actually get nationwide to block my account??0 -

By faking the page or deliberately logging you in incorrectly three times. Try a different computer and I bet your account isn't actually blocked.
As I say its very odd. It looks like its logged in successfully as its showing the last login time and the page is on a genuine Nationwide website as the greenbox is there to say its secure. Can you try in Internet Explorer to see if you get the same options?
Also check your Firefox addons and plugins, as for something to do this I can imagine it'd have to be installed as an addin or plugin. If you've got a McAfee addon, again that does tend to point to it may be legit but if theres other addons that you don't recognise its possible isn't so. The thing that is really mysterious is nothing similar comes up on a google search. As an IT geek I'm quite intrigued!0 -
IVe now changed all my details and everything looks ok with balances and such i checked using my home laptop, when i rang nationwide they did confirm that it was blocked, and unblocked it for me, i cant do any scans or check firefox now till the morning as it was my work PC, im a bit worried now as i also log into my abbey account from there but didnt have any problems, but have still changed my details for that to.
This is the page i got when i tried to log in before ringing them:beer:0 -
This may be caused by a virus/trojan such as Zbot (Zeus), Silon, or Spyeye, carrying out a "man-in-the-browser" attack; the object is to get you to use your card reader when you shouldn't, so that the scumbags controlling the virus can set up new payees and payments without your knowledge but apparently with your approval.
Best to scan with Malwarebytes (free from www.malwarebytes.co.uk, but watch what you click on when you get to the Cnet download site). Do the quick scan. This removes a lot of nasties that McAfee and AVG in particular often miss at the moment.0 -
You shouldn't a work PC for personal banking. Its not safe as you have no control over what processes are running in the background. Same applies to internet cafes & public libraries. I also use Nationwide and have never seen that warning screen before. Though once some years ago the secure connection sign and padlock didn't appear. I suggest that you monitor your a/c closely for a few weeks and perhaps get Nationwide to change all your details.0

When I say work pc I don't mean in the proper sense, its a small family run company, with only a few pc's all standalone rather than a huge company with servers everywhere,
Anyway I ran a malwarebytes full scan with the latest database and nothing showed, it's all very strange!:beer:0
