They made a lot of changes from IE8 to IE9 which can change how a website is displayed. There's a list of some here (which I don't pretend to understand).I would agree but it seems strange that some sites that worked in IE8 now don't work in IE9. There must be some other chnage too.
The point of moving to standards is that hopefully one day websites will be displayed exactly the same across all browsers.0
