  • So when they say sign off and then sign back on does that meen you have to wait six weeks again or are you just signed off for the period that you are away?

    Thanks
  • No, you do not have to wait six weeks to make a new claim-you can make a rapid reclaim as soon as you return to the UK. You have to close your claim down by filling in your ES40 under the 'other reasons' section and phone the call centre on your return. Did you have to wait six weeks at the beginning of your claim? A lot of people used to think that if you left your job voluntarily or were sacked, you couldn't claim for six weeks but this has never been the case-is this why you think you might have to wait for six weeks?
  • What about Human rights ?
Didn't I read somewhere that Every Human in Europe has the right to 2 weeks paid holiday, whether they work or not ?
    ...or was I dreaming ?

I am not aware of such a legal provision.

you tell them you are going away and you make a rapid reclaim on your return. You lose the benefit while you are away if you go abroad. Have a good time.

does he get housing benefit nobodys asked you that?

IF so then he will need to let them know he will still get the housing benefit but it would be a good idea to inform them? The job centre probably will anyway when he signs off. Its not too much bother really.

this is obviously a big concern for HMG, all that available labour laying on a beach for a few days could wreck the UK economy

what is considered acceptable for uninterupted claims then, N.Ireland? (its UK) Channel Islands (UK protectorate), Gibralta?

if i a claimant is in N.Ireland on holiday and visits ROI hes doing so illegally?

If you are simply going to Northern Ireland for a holiday, you are treated in the same way as a JSA claimant who is going on holiday within Great Britain (see below). If you go to Northern Ireland for an extended period, you can continue to claim JSA there for up to 4 weeks providing you continue to show that you are available for and actively seeking work and that you intend to return to Great Britain within a year (JSA Regs, reg 50(2)).
