Firstly, I wanted to say well done on not giving in to the peer pressure. It may even have given some of the others pause for thought!
It's hard to deal with debt if you feel deprived, though, so here's my idea: shove a small amount away every month (say £10) and use that money to go to every THIRD card game. That way you're "spreading the load" and you'll be having a good time that you can look forward to. Also, it's a lot easier to say to someone "Sorry, I can't make it this time but I'll definitely be at the next one".0
