Two queries about housing benefit

Hi guys, I'm shortly going to have to make a benefit claim.
I'm pretty clear on the procedure for JobSeekersAllowance, but less so about housing benefit because it was 10 years ago when I last claimed it.
1) What proofs do they need to see, in order to start a claim?
2) Am I right to think that you are entitled to payment on account after 2 weeks, while your claim is processed? How does this work- is it automatic?

For housing benefit you have to take in proof of JSA/tax credits if you receive them, a copy of your rent agreement if it's private rent, child benefit, any other benefit awards. Also bank statements for the last 3 months and any savings account statements.
I can't remember anything else you have to take.
I'm not aware of the payment after 2 weeks, it's certainly not automatic, mine took 5 weeks to process but it was backdated to the date the claim was put in.
Theere is something (may be an interim (not sure if that's right) payment) I've seen it mentioned but not entirely sure. Someone will be able to advise you correctly I'm sure

Managed to dig out my bank statements and rent agreement.
How does 'proof of JSA' work? If you claim them both at the same time? Do you have to wait for a decision on JSA before you can apply for HB?0 -
No apply right (to avoid losing benefit) away and give the extra evidence required in the next couple of weeksForums can be/are a good guide to entitlement and it is good practice to back it up with clarification from the relevant department/specialist with written confirmation to safeguard yourself.0

You can take what you have in and then when the confirmation letter comes through you can take it in to them.Credit Card: £796 Left/£900 October 2011 :eek:Store Card: £100 October 2011

You can make a claim up to 13 weeks in advance so get it in!!!
We are required to make a payment on account after 14 days but to be honest, if we could do that, we'd never have a backlog!!!I currently manage a Housing Benefit service and have been working in Housing / council tax benefit (as was) since 2001.

In my LA, we pay people who keep ringing as it is pragmatic. Sometimes you gotta make a nuisance of yourself unfortunately.I currently manage a Housing Benefit service and have been working in Housing / council tax benefit (as was) since 2001.

Yes, from what I have heard, it looks like that is the way it's gotta be.0
