Tescos and Coupons

My sister has just rang me with some bad news. My niece, who works at one of our Tescos (only on a Sunday) has been told not to accept any coupons unless the customer has bought the product. I know the supermarkets seem to have different policies but we have been following the threads on this and knew this would eventually happen. My sister has just gone to our other Tescos and I will be seeing her later so will find out about that store. We both have several book tokens which are now useless unless we start up another hobby. As much as I like reading nothing can be so exciting as getting loads of money off your shopping.

Which Tescos are you having problems with?
Thanks.0 -
Park Farm in Ashford Kent. Went to Asda in Canterbury a fortnight ago and the cashier wouldn't take any of my coupons. I was only trying to hand over 10% of my shopping but came back to Ashford Asda and they were still taking them.0

I just used one of the book coupons this afternoon in Tesco along with a £5 voucher for Sainsbury's and didn't buy the products. No problem at all. I think it really does depend on who you go to. I went to a girl last week who would only take 10% off and then I remembered she had done that before, so now I shall avoid her in future. Young lads are best I find.3 kids(DS1 6 Nov, DS2 8 Feb, DS3 24 Dec) a hubby and two cats - I love to save every penny I can!

Put my shopping through in two transactions today.
One lot was to make full use of a set of H&B and a Sun £5 off £20 spend.
The second lot went through and I started handing over vouchers, Asda ones, Somerfield ones and some non specific ones...... as they kept going through I cheerily said 'it'll tell us when to stop will it?' and he said 'no, but I can see when you've had about half of your bill taken off. Fantastic...!! I just kept handing them over..... he then said that's about it, ( I wasn't going to argue)... got approx £25 off. Whoooo hoooo....
He was a really nice young SA and I was very tempted to go and sing his praises and CS. I have often done this in the past as I am sure they get enough complaints about staff, but thought better of it in case it raised both his and my profiles.
Will be going back tomorrow evening.0 -
i really do think it depends on the individual tesco. i went further afield today to another TEsco and spent £130 on shopping and handed in £80 worth of coupons, lots of quick read ones as well as the lovely sainsbury and £5 somerfield ones. My mam spent £38 and got her bill down to 25p!!! i will be going back there. of course both SA's were young boys and the one that served my mam told the lad who served me how many coupons she handed in and laughed. i told the SA who was serving me that i too was doing that and he just laughed.
on the other hand yesterday with a very small shop the lad would not take a 50p newspaper coupon cos he said i was not a student. i then pointed to my 11 year old daughter and said she was. he said you have to be a university student, so i said then my son was at university but he said that he had to be with me to enable me to use the coupon. i must admit i said he was taking the p*** to his face.Just about to give up!0 -
I did five shops today and only spend £15 after paying with Somerfield, book tokens (only one per transaction of these though) and HB vouchers. I got £90 worth of items and most of them were BOGOF's so sooo chuffed. A good day for me.
Will see what happens next week though!!:T Benjamin has won!!! Am soooo proud. Thank you to everyone who agreed my baby was the cutiest. Want to go round and hug everyone who voted, it means so much to me!:A0 -

Reading how you all take the mickey with coupons at Tesco I'm not surprised they're stopping you using them. Surely it would be better to hand over a max. of say 10% of your bill & then they'd probably not worry. In the long term this must surely be a better deal?0

Supporting this sort of selfish stupidity is going to get all coupons refused...!
