Reputable overn cleaning service or easy cleaning tips please =)

When I moved into my flat two years ago, I was young and dumb, and let my oven get filthy inside. I decided to clean it myself and it looked no better, but did smell of chemicals so much so that I was paranoid about cooking food in it.

I have back, hip and knee problems so I can't easily get down to give it a good scrub, and the instruction manual lists so many warnings about damaging the insides, I'm scared to risk it anyway.

So I'm either looking for a company who can give it a good clean, and are trustworthy, so that I can start from scratch and keep it clean from that point onwards.

Or I would like tips on how to get rid of the burnt on fat, and make it look like new without spraying insane chemicals inside... or just tips on good products for cleaning the oven. It's an electric fan oven if that makes any difference.

Any help would be great, because it looks like a war zone in there.

I used ovenu (http://www.ovenu.co.uk/) to clean a rental house cooker, the guy advised that 2 of the igniters needed replacing and would probably end up costing more than a new cooker, he said he would clean it but if i wanted to opt for a new oven he would leave it! I decided as it was old anyway i would get a new one, his fee for this £0. I did give him a tenner for petrol anyway, but impressed with his service even if he didn't do the job he originally came to do! Have since used him at other locations.

Do you have a friend with a steamer that you can borrow? No chemicals, but they do get a lot of muck off. Failing that, I do use a chemical cleaner ( the one with the bag) and you don't have to scrub.

    HTH.

I had a Google and couldn't really find a price list for Ovenu but looking at a few forums gave me the impression that for an ordinary cooker it would be about £60.
So I guess do you want to spend that much on something that yopu don't own?

Or do you know anyone who would do it for you but cost you less?

I would just buy Mr Muscle oven cleaner, spray it and leave it overnight.
Get a rubber door mat to kneel for about a fiver, some Marigolds, and give it a good scrub. I know the chemicals smell horrible but it's the cheapest way of doing it?

    They sound pretty good, thanks.

I don't have a friend with a steamer sadly. What sort of chemical cleaner do you mean?

I do own the oven and £60 doesn't sound too bad really. I've got some mr muscle but it doesn't seem to do anything - it's that burnt on. When I scrub I just end up hurting my shoulders.

I was recommended Oven Mate by Lakeland by several friends and it's bloomin' brilliant stuff.

You just paint it on and leave it for a few minutes to a few hours (depending on how manky it is) and then wipe the crud off. If it's really bad you may have to repeat the application but there's no need to scrub at all.

It's quite strong but doesn't stink like the other cleaners do (i.e Mr Muscle etc).

Or use Oven Pride its just over £2 in Sainsburys a few weeks ago. Put all the oven racks in a bag and leave them in the garden over night. Dab on the Oven pride in the cooker and leave over night and in the morning every thing is sparkling with hardly any scrubbing and no bad smells.

Vyle imho and I use the same brand - Oven Pride seem to be the only one who provide a bag so that you can do the grill pan and racks in;). Try Wilkinsons and Home Bargains for it, they seem to be routinely cheaper than Sainsbury's or Asda.

Let us know how you get on and what you use.
