Catalogue refusing to accept token payments

What they may try to do is apply late payment fees. If they do, write to them after the first one is applied, advising that you are paying all you can afford to pay, and if they insist on adding the fees you will have no option but to cease payment completely until they get a CCJ where you can challenge these. There's a strong possibility that they'll back down at that point.
Thats for that, I have been charged a late fee for this month. Will get a letter wrote out on Tuesday when I'm off work.0 -
When did you open the account? Did you sign a credit agreement?:beer:0

Have you requested your CCA from them? if not do this as most catalouges dont hold any paperwork if this is the case then the balls in your court so to speak..Sealed pot challenger # 10

...hi littlepinkstars...the catalogue say they are not willing to accept token payments yet they have cashed the £1-00 cheque that you sent them....thus contradicting themselves....just keep sending them £1-00 a month and if they keep cashing it and then take you to court, im sure the judge wont look favourably on them...:)littlepinkstars44 wrote: »Hello,
I recently sent out letters and £1cheques to all my creditors, along with a letter explaining my current incoming and outgoings.
Had previously sought advice for another creditor here
Today I have received a letter from Very saying that they cannot accept my offer as it does not meet their minimum payment criteria and have to phone them within 7 days to discuss options.
Any advice on what I should do now? They have cashed the £1 cheque I showed them, and that has already came off my balance on the account.0 -
bank transfer.... they wont reject. then u send them another letter saying its all u can afford, e.t.c... they'll obvs push for more, but they accepted the payment so they cant say uve 'not paid'.0

Just opened a letter from the catalogue today. The exact same letter they sent me on the 25th of May.
The exact same!!
So where do I go from here?0 -
Personally, I would contact them by phone and ask what they can do to help. I work in a collections department (if only that helped me stay away from debt
) and if a customer is struggling, we will usually refuse the token payments only if we need more documentation as proof, or dont agree with some of their outgoings. So they might actually be able to help if you do phone into them. 0 -

Sorry, but I totally disagree with you - if things are agreed during a phone call, what proof is there as to what was agreed? Personally after following advice on MSE I keep everything to written contact only, that way there are accurate records of who has said what and when.
The help they can offer during written correspondence should be no more or less than they can offer during a phone call.
Op: Some of my creditors also refused my £1 token payments - but all have been applied to my accounts whether they said they would accept or not. Set up a standing order to them for your token payments, they can only have what you can afford to give them and you'll also save yourself the cost of a stamp each month

In my experience, it takes alot longer for customers to get things sorted out via letter. If we agree anything over the phone, corrospondance gets sent out regarding the agreement. Also, like I say, it might be that extra information is needed for them to agree anything, and I just think it would be quicker to phone, find out what is needed, and get it sorted as soon as possible.0 -
Thanks for that. I'm not phoning them. I have only just managed to get my phone number taken off my records for all my creditors, don't want them having it again.
I'm just going to continue the £1 payments. Have explained twice to them now and they still aren't listening.0
