Sorry, and I'm making a detour too. I didn't start this thread to ramble and start a discussion, it was just a question. If I want to discuss more, I'll go and ramble in DT.

Hang in there - by the way, you can work and claim DLA at the same time.
DLA is a "non means" tested benefit so the amount you earn doesn't matter.
The only time DLA worry about someone working is eg: if someone is claiming the benefit and working as a brickie, that might look a bit strange. On the other hand, you could have someone in a wheelchair doing office work which would be perfectly fine.
