Ferries - special offers

Soory if this has been done before, I did do a search and found nothing.

Ive been looking at booking a ferry - return journey with camper and it works out as £400.

So I looked at booking two lots of day trips - they work out at £108 each!

Can I do this? Book a day trip there (England --> France --> England) and only use the outward leg, and and a day trip back (France --> England --> France) and again only use the outward leg? Can you get into trouble / be forced to pay?

Someone has said to me, they may take the full price from your bank card if you dont use both legs (of the ticket :D) but if i cancelled my card before I went.... they couldnt?

Is this OK or am i just being naughty?

I think this has been raised before. If I remember correctly, all was well on the way out but the guy wasn't allowed get on the ferry to come back. The reason being that the ferry company cancelled the second day trip booking completely when he failed to turn up for the outward leg.

He ended up paying a fortune to get home.

Do it with two different ferry companies and there won't be a problem - their terms & conditions reserve the right to charge you if you don't make the return journey but they won't do that in practice. You'd only be likely to become a cropper if you were to do this repeatedly, and it seems that in such cases they don't just charge your card out of the blue but rather get you to pay up when you arrive at the terminal to board the ferry.

Also has the OP looked at DFDS/ Norfolk Line for a Dover-Dunkirk crossing? Often cheaper than Dover-Calais.

    ah.

Just called the ferry company. They said that if you didnt use the return part of either day trip, the outward jorney used would be updated to a single trip and the full price taken from your card accordingly.

I did this a number of years ago. I booked via a travel agent and paid by cash. I never heard another word. I don't know if you can still book via a travel agent.

Voyageur, No discount for LD but their prices are much less than BF. If you want a BF, includes Condor, discount PM me.
  • Hi

Only just registered but feel I must add to this thread. Someone told me how to get to France in my motorhome ..... buy two return tickets ...... just like daisy ...... might work out cheaper but the ferry companies are on to this scam ...... I booked mine through the Camping & Caravan Club and they worked out at under £50 return ..... I gave about 6 months notice to travel in March
