I asked them to stop paying me this year as we owe them nearly 7k, they said they will have to refer it onto another department but yes it could be done. Well for the past 3 weeks we have still been getting paid weekly, only £11-£17 a week but they are still paying us, We have stashed it in another account where their stupid overpayment of just under £800 is too. For when we receive that letter in a few years demanding it all back like you.
what a crock!0 -

I agree the system is a total mess and the sooner they abolish tax credits the better.0

we also ahve any over payment of about 3k from 3 years ago, it was odd they had our income right and we renewed and they ahdn't updated hubbys hours, but we were still entitled to the same amount the next year as we had been getting but we owed them money for the year before, anyway they deduct £10 a week off us to repay it, so far i think we've paid off about £900, they set this up themselves we didn't ask to pay so little backDEC GC £463.67/£450

I'm getting £71 p/w Tax Credits despite me telling them I have got a job (after nearly a year on the dole) with a salary of £18k.
I will be putting all I can into my ISA, that way, when they realize their error, I will have made £120 in interest.
WTC's were introduced back in 1995 as a vote-winner by the Tories, but they have now run the course and need to be integrated into the proposed new 'Unified Benefit'.Never Knowingly Understood.

BIG PAT ON THE BACK FOR YOU :j:money:0 -
I was ovepaid from around 2004 when they had a big computer glitch that deleted off partners income, think it happened to a lot of folk.
Tried to give it back but they kept saying it was correct until they eventually spotted the glitch.
Once the overpayment was notified to me I tried to pay it back but oh no, they wouldn't let me so I haven't received any CTC since then as it has been offset against the OP.
DS is going to college this year but I would imagine the balance will need paid off at some point next year.0 -
I have found a form on HMRC web site - TC846 which you can use to submit a dispute if you feel HMRC have not met their responsibilities. In my case they have not met their responsibilities and it is completely their fault that they overpaid me back in 2004. Lucky I kept all my documents with names and dates of HMRC representative who I spoke to.0
