I'm actually impressed with my car insurance company.
CSIS, (it's limited to civil service industry sector, NHS, teachers, and ex bodies such as BT, RM and includes the family of them)
After reading about use abroad in another thread on here, my policy wasn't quite clear, (although it does say it on the website) so I rang them yesterday, and they offered to send me a confirmation letter, which has arrived today. (60 days per trip, fully comp as per my normal cover)
No charge and next day service!
Other benefits I got with them are
Free Courtesy Car
Free legal cover (and they are both free, as I never get a quote with them in, so that's the baseline for all my quotes)
No administration fees of any kind.
and
No auto renew either.
It is a "not for profit organisation" with no shareholders to pay out to, which is probably why it was the cheapest quote as well.
Hopefully I'll never have to test the claim department out, but it's excellent customer service so far, so if it's as good I should have no complaints.
Who knows, maybe my days of switching every year are over!

Good for you :-)
I know sometimes claimants expectations are too high, but it does seem very difficult to find good insurers of any type.0 -

Depends where your priorities lie. There will always be someone who can do it cheaper, so it depends whether you are led by the need to find the cheapest quote, or whether you actually value what you are buying.
Sounds like you have found a competitive quote (not necessarily the cheapest), with good service and good benefits.
IMHO that's the way which everyone should (ideally) purchase insurance.

I agree entirely, by cheapest, I meant cheapest of reputable looking and sounding companies, I disclude ones I've never heard of, ones that are email only, (and with no offense to anyone), ones that I having difficulty understanding, (I always make a phonecall to check where the call centre is).
I never use ones that have strange sounding names with lots of aa's or just numbers in, or that plays on interent names or email.
That usually knocks about the first five or ten off the list!0 -
Wow!
I am absolutely astonished.
I got my renewal from QuoteMart this morning. Not only have they hiked the premium by 46%, they've also increased the excess by 50% too.
£524.66 including instalment charge, £450 excess.
I've been into Mike's site, CSIS, and I've got the same cover, with £200 excess for a total of £360.01.
I'm just going to look up twenty of Mike's posts to thank each and every one of them!I am a mortgage broker. Alright for some eh? It's underwritten by RSA which will give you some indication that the claims process wont be 'hassle free'0

60 days per trip
Academic really as not even the public sector gives you 9 weeks of annual leave!Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

I suppose that’s a typical “old” cooperative/mutual insurance company set up to provide its members with reasonably priced services by pooling risk rather than one set up to maximise bonuses & shareholder profit.
No shareholders, aim to break even on costs and any surplus goes to charity. Sounds like a good business model to me, will certainly give them a try come next renewal.
As an aside, the fact that it’s run by former & serving civil servants certainly knocks a hole in the argument that a state run insurance company would be prohibitively inefficient & expensive.0 -

To be fair, we had a contents claim two years ago when our neighbour's house was struck by lightning. It knocked out everything in our house connected to the phoneline - Sky box, TV, laptop, router, fax/copier and our claim to RSA was really painless.
They even let me upgrade to Sky HD as my commitment to a tie-in got a cheaper deal than simply having the standard box replaced.I am a mortgage broker.
