i'm doing my own. I've been to MAC, Austeer Lauder and Clinique.
MAC put too much make up on me (which was hilarious because they kept talking to each other about me and saying "wow, it's so refreshing to see a natural one, so many people ask us to do full on" and I'm thinking "really? I can't move my face!"), BUT, since i've been doing it myself the make up is very good and i've actually bough more since. I now use a brush to apply my foundation and i'm using a primer too!
Austeer Lauder were lovely, really lovely. They listened to me harp on about having a tan on the day but not knowing yet what shade etc, and the lady gave me three little sample pots of different shades of foundation, and i didn't even buy anything. She also said i look like Scarlet Johansson which rather pleased me. I love it when that happens.
Clinique were also really good, they've given me samples and they gave me the best make up remover i've ever used. I went into House of Fraser yesterday and bought some more, and a concealer and i got a free make up bag of goodies, so i was delighted!
I've since had plenty of time to practice and i'm confident it'll look fine.saving up another deposit as we've lost all our equity.

Definately do it yourself. I had mine done professionally and wiped it all off and done my own in the end. If you go to a makeup counter they will do your make up for you before the event. show you how to do it and then you can purchase the items to do it. remember to ask them for make up suitable for wedding photo's. make sure to moisturise well to ensure your make up does not get a cracking look, especially around the eyes.
Hope this helps and hope you enjoy your day

I would reccomend it, it took the stress and pressure away and it felt so nice to be pampered.

I'm still toying with having someone to do my make-up if I can find somebody who can travel to me in the morning for a sensible price. But I'm booked in to have free Bobbi Brown session next week as well. If I do it myself I'll get some decent products and swot up on the tutorials. Plus my 16yr old BM will help and she is great with make-up - I don't wear much at all usually.
Abis, I get where you're coming from and I also don't usually bother with foundation but I was advised that you often need to do a bit more than you would every day for the photographs. Depending on skin tone and condition, photos can be quite unflattering if there's no colour or 'coverage'. I had a demo of my pic taken as it was with just a bit of blusher, mascara and eye shadow...and again with a tinted moisturiser (at my age it's more forgiving than dry foundation!) and the difference in the close-up photos was amazing0 -
Me and my OH take quite a lot of photos between us normally, and I am normally quite happy with how I am on them (especially now I have lost some weight and lost some of my chins, lol!)
When I have foundation on, it just doesn't look like me if you know what I mean. Maybe i'll have a day where I play with all different types of foundations / mousses / powders / tinted moisturiser etc, and then take a piccie of my face with each one, lol! My OH will think I have gone crazy!!
I booked in a trial for some temporary individual eyelash extensions after this thread tho :T £11, and they last approx 7 days. Got a trial tomorrow, so will let you know how they goMarried my lobster in July 2011

I'm going DIY and treating myself to new make up over time
I haven't been bothered about make up in the past, so I have watched tutorial videos on youtube and make up manufacturer sites, also googled for hints on common make up mistakes, so I avoid them!
After practising with my own cheap tat I've been building up my makeup bag and acquiring samples.
I visited the clinique counter, the lady was wonderful, she applied a fair foundation and gave me a sample to take away so I could see how long it lasted.
If doing DIY makeup practise and take pictures - lots of them at different angles in daylight, indoors, bright full flash. Don't be scared to ask for samples also ask about how to apply makeup. Also when I did decide on a product I tried to buy it when there were special offers on (reduced prices or useful freebies)
I've gone from pretty much no makeup bag to - now my bag is like this
Clinique 3 step, wash, toner and moisturiser (already used) and pore minimiser (freebie) and instant perfector
Bodyshop matt it primer (to help stop my face sliding off)
Clinique superbalanced foundation (I will shop around makeup counters in sept to check my shade still matches after the summer sun)
Clinique transluscent power (also helps face stay on and not go shiny)
Bodyshop Baked to last blusher
Bodyshop waterproof mascara (freebie)
Concealer for under eyes - I'm still finding a good one!
Bodyshop eyeliner (freebie)
Clinique eyeshadow palette (freebie)
Max factor lipstick (freebie)
Lipcote - makes my lipstick stay on
Because my bridesmaids are doing their own make up too I bought the groupon deal (£30 voucher for £12) and we bought some stuff we can use for the wedding.
Good luck!:kisses2: Got married September 2011:smileyhea

Hi Ellay,
Where did you go to book the Bobbi Brown trial? Is it something you can book online, or just literally go to the counter?
Thanks!

How far in advance should I book my makeup trial? I have no idea how booked up these kind of people get.0
