Temp trying to get 0% transfer credit card.

New to posting so please help. Have applied for a 0% transfer credit card but have been turned down as I temp. Does anyone know a credit card company who do not penalize you for temping??? Thanks.

Hi. What I will tell you will go against everything on this site about protecting your credit rating.

But, I deal with my brother's credit situation becaue he does not have a clue basically. He can tell me what political situation is going on in any country (which I don't have a clue about!) but when it come to moving to a new 0% card, he just looks at you glazed and him paying £30ish a month interest when the offer finishes and don't move, does not seem to bother him.

Anyhow - he was unemployed for 5 months at christmas. His % was up for renewal. I applied online with his details and got him a card offering 0% for 15 months. He does not bank with this particular building socity.

I said on the application, he was self employed - he normally is but not during these 5 months - and that he earned £25,000. Again he normally does when he is employed.

Credit scoring is all mainly automated and I personally would never say I was a "temp" employee the same way when I applied for credit cards in my brother's name, I would never tick "unemployed". I may be wrong, but he would be declined automatically.

He would not meet the automated score if I did say that.

He pays that card on the due day every month without fail, I make sure, so there is no fraud going on. It's just sometimes, you may be in a position where you get declined for credit because of the way banks now rely on a computer and also what you tell the computer.

I am not sure if that helps you any, but equally, the "white lies" I have told still gets my brother a good credit offer! :)

Never ever be tempted to lie on on a credit application. Its fraud and it is serious.

Also by putting on inaccurate information you risk being flagged on the national hunter database and damaging future credit applications.

Welshamazon - being on a temporary contract probably means you'll be unlikely to get the best credit cards and 0% deals. If you have had a steady income over the last couple of years paid into your bank account then you could possibly try your own bank as they will be able to see that income is regular even if it is from different sources - so they might be a bit more willing to lend.

Alternatively if you have any existing credit card from issuers that do 0% cards (so not a subprime card) then you could see if they will offer you a 0% deal on your existing account as this won't involve a new credit application - this is probably most likely if you have open unused cards, although people with longterm balances also sometimes get these offers.
