flying to Lithuania

At the begining of July me and my bf are visiting Lithuania for a few days, it will be the 1st time there for both of us. We have booked the flight with Ryanair, who I've since been hearing bad stories about! As if I'm not nervous enough having to fly! Anyway, his sister who's bf comes from there is booking our hotel, so we don't have to worry about that, but can any one give me any ideas, tips, information about flying with ryanair and visiting Lithuania? Thanks for reading this :)

The flight will be bare bones, so take a sandwich, book etc. Ryanair are the kind of airline you think is a bargain until the first time they stitch you up (then you will never go near them again - their customer service isn't lacking, it's actively missing-to-hostile). But most flights run without problems, and you will probably be just fine. Do not leave it to the airport to weigh and measure your luggage, and read everything carefully. They take no prisoners, and seem to look for opportunities to charge extra (so for instance wear all your layers as opposed to having them in your bag, drink your water before checkin and refill your bottle airside. Oh, and make sure you work out what the deal is with your boarding pass - you probably have to print your own at home or can potentially face £30 each each way (an extra £120 or so) for them to check you in. Oh, and final warning, they typically use the least convenient airfield they can find as long as it is cheap. Flying to Norway you can find yourself in Sweden for instance (or something like that in the past, not sure now), so check where the airport they fly to is, and if it has a train/bus into the city, or factor in taxi costs.

Have an awesome time! The flight will probably be just fine if you go into it adversarily, with your wits about you for all the extras, and I'm envious of you seeing some of Eastern Europe, especially less travelled destintions like Lithuania!

One quick point you would probably get more responses if you placed this in the correct forum, ie overseas anyway...

Ryanair have two bases in lithuania kaunas and vilnius.

I've been to kaunas with ryanair and yup it is a schlep from the airport, but there isnt a closer airport anyway, kaunas is very old school eastern europe, and when we arrived the taxi driver couldnt believe we were there for a team overnighter and offered to take us to vilnus for the same price, however the hotels were already booked etc etc, kaunas does come a bit more to life during the weekend but during the week very little is open and you may struggle to keep yourself entertained in the evening, saying that its cheap as chips and it still remains the place where ive had the best meal of my life.

If you play by the rules with ryanair you'll be fine and dandy, i've probably had 20+ flights with them and never been delayed and never had any problems, and with the exception of Kaunas, never paid more than £10 for a ticket, makes me chuckle when people bang on about them just imagine they are winged buses, and you dont expect to be fed and have foot massages on buses do you? personally i get on board and once im in the air get my boots meal deal out and chuck my ipod on and wait to arrive at my destination, happy days!!
Live each day like its your last because one day you'll be right

i keep considering going from that nice little doncaster airport ,clean and friendly
make sure you have the right currency when you get there and more importantly study via google how to get from the airport and around in the cheapest possible transport available without being ripped
i always find it amazing that people dont plan anything before they go so well done you
