ESA50 form and Visual ability?

Hi,

I have been looking at the esa50 form online to see what questions they ask about visual ability and I can't really see anything in it except the section 8 Getting around safely

Where it merely asks about ability to cross the road unaided.

I have also been looking at an esa PDF to see how the visual descriptors are scored and it gives a long list where points are awarded with ones ability to see a friend at different distances etc. This seems perfectly logical and clear.

What I'm confused about here is why do they not ask the same descriptor questions as regards visual ability on the esa50 form instead of a very vague reference to ones ability to cross the road (they did on the ib50 form)

Do they simply expect the atos professional to fill in all the blanks in this regard instead of asking the client what they themselves think their visual ability to be?

Can't really understand this maybe I am missing something here.

Thanks to anyone who may be able to enlighten me on this.

PS well I have just seen an esa50 from above where it does ask the above descriptor questions about eyesight but not sure if this is the latest esa50 form?

Many of the questions do not accurately reflect the actual ESA criteria, and then of course there is the guidance given to the ATOS "doctor" which further stretch the intention.

The simple fact is, that for the ill prepared, the ESA50 is designed to help them fail the ESA medical.

The link you included is to the old ESA50, if you Google "directgov esa50" you'll find an online copy of the current one.

Thanks veyr much for reply. It does seem a bit strange that the descripters are not on the esa50 form.

Just wondering when a person is called for an esa medical it it better to keep quiet and only answer the questions that is put by the examiner or is it better to be fairly talkative and give a good account of oneself and how the physical and mental health problems affect me?

    Thanks
