Traditional Early Purple Sprouting broccoli is sown in May/June, then planted out about June/July, and it will crop in Feb/March/April (if it's not too warm) the following year.

However - there has been a bit of breeding work done, and there are varieties that will grow and crop during the summer/autumn the same year - it sounds that you may have one of these varieties.

This is one bit of breeding that I think unnecessary - there are perfectly good calabrese to crop in the summer, and countless other crops. Very few plants that will crop in the early spring!
