Looks & feels like my kind of car but is so long since bought new-ish car(currently have K reg vauxhall cavalier) that don't know if
A this is a good price
B this is a good make of car
Anyone out there want to give this helpless female some advice?
Can you hear my eyelashes fluttering??

Not the best deal - not the best car - check http://www.honestjohn.co.uk clik on Car By Car Breakdown - loads info on whats wrong with EVERY car!!
You can ask Q's in 'The Backroom' clik on Discussion.
I'll add my bit here, but what are you driving now & what sort of use will the new car need to be able to cope with?
If your looking at value, think Astra - 1.6 Club spec, will be reasonable trim level - air conditioning too - but make sure you feel comfy in the painfull seats (for me anyway).Similar age as the 25 from a garage at your budget, if you haggle!
Focus is the benchmark - but at your budget, you'll see some older & poorer examples.
Come back again & ask some more!!

Thanks for the advice-someone else bought the car yesterday so thats been decided for me!
Currently driving a Kreg cavalier which has just passed it's MOT but is on it's last legs. Wouldn't mind another Vauxhall but definately don't want anyhting bigger than the cavalier.
Need boot space for 3 peoples luggage now & again but normally just for shopping. use the car for everything as we are a one car household.
Looked at honest john site about the Rover and will now go & look for Astra & Focus.
Cheers-I'll keep you posted on my progress and will welcome any other recomendations!0 -
Hi,
My Vauxhall Cavalier is a very reliable car, and I doubt if yours has cost you much to run over the years. I have done almost nothing but normal servicing to my 1990 SRi since I bought it 15 years ago. Most trouble free car I have ever owned by far.
I would not buy a Rover 25 (small and questionable reliability), a Focus is a better bet. But they are much smaller than you would think, so check it is big enough.
If you plan to keep the car many years (best tactic to beat depreciation) then do not buy the smallest engine size available. Larger engines have to work less hard and generally give longer service.
The taxi fleets round here like 406s (my other car) and these get really heavy use so that must be a recommmendation.
Mondeos are worth a look too.

Thanks Mike
The Cavalier was a bargain at £300.00 two years ago(from a friend) but needed a lot of welding to get through the MOT and will need a lot more work doing soon(so the garage says) so it's time to bid it a find farewell.
have been thinking about Focus but will have to have an older reg than I wanted for my budget. Was thinking of at least a 1600 engine as I like to have a bit of oomph to get me out of any tight spots.
Will think about a 406 too-the other thought is maybe renault laguna or going Japanese- a Primera perhaps?
Any thoughts?0
