Hello Guys - need a sliver of hope here please.
My 16 year old DS has living on MSN and My Space on the computer since starting college in September. The little angel (tis the season of goodwill etc.), thinks he opened that bad virus email "Is That You? :0".
Of course the computer went into a fit, addresses tripping out everywhere, pages flipping forward like they do at the end of 'Solitaire', freezing, not accepting commands, not setting up, etc. It's a dual core, running XP Pro. The problem is we've had to setup old faithful again but it's not up to the workload and was enjoying retirement so it can only be temporary.
To make matters worse, I know nothing about computers. Is there any way to cure the 'new' computer of this nasty virus? Can anyone give me any hope ? Please be sure to give any suggestions in detailed idiot-speak. Hopeful thanks in advance.

is the New Pc a Dell out of interest ??
worse case it has a "Factory Restore" option that will lose any files but set you back to day 1 with a clean PCEx forum ambassador

Hi Browntoa - thanks for taking the time to reply. Thank you for your time.
No, it's not a Dell angel. It was a pretty high spec one that'll do everything except cook dinner built for us by a techie friend. It was fantastic and is much missed - only had it a few days before DS opened virus so there's nothing we'd miss on it. My dad's friend who built it, lives a good distance away and will come as soon as he can bless him, but he does a lot of charity work, is helping a friend of his with terminal cancer and has had a new granddaughter born last week. I know I can trust him. The name it says on the tower is /lSUS (ASUS?)."If you realized how powerful your thoughts are, you would never think a negative thought." ~ by Peace Pilgrim.***'You just got Tiffed!'***0 -
in which case have a go at my first option....it looks complicated but if you download the software, print off the instructions and then go into safe mode and scan as it tells you .
it is a lot easier than it looks.
if you have antivirus already installed on the PC then use that to scan to PC in safe mode in place of any anti virus I mention in the threadEx forum ambassador
