Help with choosing 17" laptop for Father please

Options
Hi just wondering if someone could advise me on buying a 17" laptop for my Father. He likes HP, so I have got it down to

or

or is there something better around for about £400? I would appreciate any advice as I have no idea at all. Thanks.

The first one is a good deal. Use code G72 and you might get £20 off.

Once you've bought it, I'd advise getting an extra 2 years on the warranty which costs £59 from HP. HP machines are rather unreliable in my experience and according to http://smidgenpc.com/2010/05/07/laptop-reliability-ratings-which-laptop-is-really-most-reliable/

Of course if he really likes HP look here https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3251436

I have an Asus which is nearly 3 yrs old and is really abused, smoker, drinker, and of course the moggy(who sits on it when he is asking for attention) <---. Upgraded to W7 rather than the pants Vista, and now looking to sticking a bit more memory in for using as a Virtual machine server. It has been a real workhorse but hey if he likes HP then ignore me.

not the most reliable brand of late, and some models have horrible lumpy trackpads and one piece mouse buttons.
