The place I worked used citylink to send and recieve up to 80 parcels a day. The local depot in York was very good but even they admitted some depots were useless with forgotten parcels...wrong deliveries etc.
I think that's the problem with citylink - it's not uniform and apparently they don't pay too good (so the manager told me at the time) so the turnover of staff is high which leads to poor service.

We ordered an item from Scan a couple of weeks ago and paid for next day delivery. Scan use Citylink. We ordered on the Wednesday and I waited in all day Thursday but nothing arrived. We checked the status of the delivery on-line and it read later that evening that they had attempted delivery but nobody was in. We telephoned Citylink on Friday morning and they said what was on the website, when we queried this and said we were at home all day, they then said that the delivery driver couldn't find the address - it isn't a new housing estate or anything. They said that the driver had already gone out but they would deliver on Monday. Waited in all day Monday but nothing arrived again. Checked the status of the delivery on-line again and it came up with delivery failed again. Got in touch with Scan and they said they would try and sort it out. Delivery driver had left on the Tuesday, so they couldn't deliver then, so we told Scan we wanted a pre 9 am delivery. It eventually arrived on the Wednesday - a full week after paying for next day delivery.

Would never use them again or any company that used them. No apology or anything from them either.
  • I ordered something from Amazon for a friend to give to her nephew, he's going away for Christmas so she wanted it quick to give him before they went away. According to Amazon it was sent via Citylink, according to Citylink's website it's been tried to deliver THREE times (all three dates my friend was in!) & although I have arranged with Citylink to redliver I now have an email from Amazon to say a refund has been issued because it was undeliverable :-(

That exact thing has happened to me as well, with a CityLink delivery.

    couldnt agree more

bought Poirot box set from dd home entertainment 10 days ago.

got e mail saying order had been dispatched.

last Wednesday card left in door said couldnt deliver as no one home.

strange thing was we are having some rooms painted and our painter described what happened as he was painting the kitchen and could see the front door and drive.

He heard the person on the drive (gravel) he came up to the door didnt ring bell and put a card straight through letterbox and walked straight back to van.

The interesting part was he never had the parcel in his hands!

We suspect he was late on deliveries and was trying to make up minutes and thought because no cars in drive obviously noone in.

    The card system is atrocious

"please call depot tonight if you are not in tomorrow for redelivery.

rang 0870 number (I know) automatic system only giving you option to choose another day ,what if you are at work all the days?

No option to speak to any one

alternative collect at your nearest depot.

for some reason they think that scunthorpe which is 40 miles away is my nearest depot rather than grantham which is 10 miles away?

how come they havent got a depot in Lincoln which is a city for christs sake

    got through to Grantham

    nothing we can do

did give me scunthorpe local number

    40 minutes no reply

    another card next day

rang customer services( absolutely useless and couldnt care less)

actually said to me all delivery services are bad after I advised that I would be speaking to dd home ent about service.

so we are crap because everyones crap.

found another crumpled up card today with our ref no with no date or time details crumpled up next to the drain on the road?

have cancelled order with dd home ent and wont be using them or any other co that uses city link again
  • do you know who are the cheepest and more relaible to send with (small amountsof parcels so no big account?)

I have to say I have always found the Post Office nearly 100% reliable. Shame it's being closed down...

  • I dispatch via CityLink and I find them to be very reliable - their service fall down when then person being delivered to, doesn't offer them a 2nd option.
If CityLink are told before delivery to leave in porch, leave at no 28, leave in garage etc, they will. But no advice, and they'll insist on a signature.

Just t'other side of the coin.

Straying slightly O/T, I've recently noticed an increased number of times that the postman has just left an oversized package (which did not require signature) on the doorstep (and not even tried to hide it from the road).

Touch wood, I don't know of anything going missing; still slightly wonder if they can't be bothered to fill a card in and take it back.

I always use Staples for my parcels. It costs £7 and is delivered via DHL with a tracking number.
