Blocked loo?

Sorry for the unsavoury topic

we have 3 loos in our house (i know, posh eh?) one downstairs and two up. Over the last few days when we flush any of them the water level rises alarmingly towards the rim before gradually subsiding and it doesn't always take any (ahem) "matter" with it (not that posh then! :p). THe baths and basins gurgle away too while all this is happening.

I am guessing there is a partial blockage somewhere, so my question is does anyone have any MSE or OS solutions to try before i call out a plumber?

this question would be better placed in the In my home board to be honest. Ill move it over in a while

This thread on that board is about the same issue. This is an older OS thread which may have some ideas.

    Hope you get it sorted

had this problem many a time before!

get a mop (one of those with an interchangelable head is good so you can throw it away after!) which is made up of those flat bits of material (ideally- like vileda or similar). Jam the head right in as tight as you can to the bottom of the loo/start of U-bend, then pull it back out quickly. Repeat if it doesn't work the first time - it will eventually ! Should dislodge the erm, matter :)

Poundland do a really good drain unblocker we have used it on our toilets in the past. You should also check your main drain because if it is blocked it will cause what you have described

Not a problem. There's a very fine line but I would see it more as a home DIY prob rather than OS. But if we leave it until it drops then you get the best of both worlds! Nothing worse than having to foot the bill for a plumber:eek: so i hope you get something to work :) I recently had to pay to get my drains thingied - ummmm , im too tired to explain. The drains people! !!:o

We had a blocked loo recently. I googled and found lots of useful info. Eventually we found using one of those metal wires, some heavy duty chemical from B&Q and a supadoopa plunger thing it cleared. We spent £26 at B&Q but cheaper than having to call out a plumber.
