Will BC give me a better limit?

in Credit cards
Buying some festival tickets for me and my friend, and would like to use my Barclaycard online. I have an Initial. Held the card since October. My limit is £260, the purchase I want to make is nearer to £400
Would they contact me if they want to raise it? I've read on here and on other forums of people being offered raises, but I don't think i want to risk ringing them and getting a bad mark or something.

If you need a raise then call them up and ask or apply via my barclaycard (if you've registered).
It is (highly) unlikely that you will be offered a raise just when you need it.0 -
You certainly won't get a bad mark for asking.
They might want to do a credit search. Not an issue in itself, but I remember a post a while back from someone who said he requested a rate rise, got credit searched and when they saw the state of his record closed the account. Just an anecdote and I don't remember which CC. If you're worried about it you could always ask them if they need to search when processing your request. If your personal situation's all fine, then you're probably happy for them to search.
BC do increase limits from time to time without being asked. They increased mine from 10K to 12K last month.0 -
Personal question (there's a reason for it), but can you not buy with a debit card?...or do you perceive some additional benefit/security in paying by credit card? If the latter, then depending on who you buy from you may not have section 75 protection.0

You could just make a £140 payment to the card and then use it for the £400 purchase. Not sure of the rules, but I've done this kind of thing before with no problems.0

I want to spread my ticket out, my statements are timed well with my paydays so I won't pay interest on this.YorkshireBoy wrote: »Personal question (there's a reason for it), but can you not buy with a debit card?...or do you perceive some additional benefit/security in paying by credit card? I've read BC might shut my account down or freeze it for that kinda thing?0 -
Buy your ticket for £200 and tell you friend that you can't buy the 2 because of you credit limit?0

They said no to an increase so i've sorted out a different way of buying them
Now that i've asked for an increase will I be on some sort of risk list or possible cancel list because I've asked for more?
I asked for a temporary increase, the CS advisor said it'd be for 3 months which is what I was happy with, I told him what I needed, and then he rounded that up neatly to £600, 300 more than I'd asked for :S0
