Pension credit/council tax

hi, just a quick query on behalf of my mother in law,

at the moment my mother in law lives alone, and she gets 100% of the council tax waived as she gets pension credit. What I would like to know is if her daughter moves in with her what would happen with the council tax? would the daughter get a 25% discount or would they still get a 100% discount?

thanks in advance for your help

Depending on mum in laws age, it may be that any reduction would be delayed for 26 weeks.

If she gets attendance allowance, there would be no real difference.

If not, a non dependent deduction will be made based on her daughters income and she will lose her single person discount.

ok i get that they will have to pay council tax, but will it be discounted as its a single person living with someone who is entitled to 100% discount?

No as your mother in law is the liable person so her daughter will not get any benefit.

Your mother in laws ctax bill will increase to 100% but depending on the factors set out in my previous post, she may get full benefit
