woolworths technosonic recall

Options
Just had a call sunday 10th Dec 10.30 am from customer services at woolies wanting to know the serial No and the place of manufacture of my LCD TV. as there is a fault with some of them.

Told him it was on the wall and could he ring back later. have since taken it down and have details waiting for him when he calls back.

Hope it's one thats OK as I have gotten quite used to it being there and it is a decent piece of equipment for the money.

Just our luck isn't it. We wait weeks/months for delivery we get them and then they want them back!

So, if you havn't had a call and you're maybe a little worried, or you bought it from stock in a shop without leaving your tel No/ contact details, give em a ring on 0870 78 79 602

There are a couple of problems:

They've got 13 amp fuses in the plugs.

    and...

    Dear Customer,

We are contacting you on behalf of Woolworths regarding the LCD TV you have purchased recently.

It has come to Woolworths attention that there is a risk of one of the
components inside which causes a small percentage of the TV's to fail. This
may result in some smoke being given off but please rest assured that there
is no risk of fire or injury

We would like you to take some information from the back of the TV and
e-mail this back to us so we can check your TV is safe to use, please could
    you collect the following information;

Where the set was made (located on the back of the TV there is a white sticker, on this white sticker in the bottom right hand corner it will say where the set is made)

Serial number (this is also located on the white sticker, at the bottom underneath the barcode there will be a code starting with QL this is the serial number)

Please e-mail back with this information asap, thank you for your co-operation

(It's on AV Forums - the faulty ones were made in China)

  • We bought this TV from Woolies and although we knew through another forum that there maybe a problem we weren't sure if ours was one of the dodgy batches. I turned on the TV one night and it went bang and sparks and smoke came up from the back, but I still had a picture!

My other half had already changed the fuse to the correct one so when this happened we went on line and they said they would repair it! We said no, as this was a known fault they should replace. In the meantime, the silver version had been put on line so we ordered one of those, stood our ground and returned and got a refund for the original black one. They weren't very happy about it but in the end we took it back to the local shop where we picked it up and got the new on at the same time.

I don't think they did enough to let people know about this problem, if it hadn't been for looking on a forum like this one we wouldn't have had any idea and I hate to think what could have happened if I'd switched it on and left the room for awhile rather than switching everything off immediately.
