They are both good but I'd prefer the Apex on Waterloo Place as it's a nicer area easier to get to from the airport, bus or train station - and less susceptible to Hen & Stag parties

Not sure why it has to be one or the other as both are in the grassmarket. Unless that is the reason!Wins in 2015
Kettle Chips, Cambridge Satchel Bag, Tixs to Sound Of Music UK Tour, Name on a bench, Hotel Chocolat Eggs, Cuddly Dog, Stabilo pens, Samsung Galaxy Tab S, LG G Flex 2 phone, Gramofon, Lunch Meal For Two at La Tasca, Lunch For Two at Handmade Burger Company, £30 Gourmet Burger Kitchen Voucher, Canon Ixus Camera0 -
Watch out for their booking scam. I booked the Grassmarket hotel (third link, nice hotel) at an attractive price, only to get an email from them shortly before I was due to go, telling me that they had an overbooking and offering me another room there at a considerably higher price (nearly £500 higher!) or "alternative" accomodation at the Waterloo place hotel, which at that time was trading under a different name with a very poor reputation.
I refused because on another trip before that, I had actually tried to book the Waterloo Pl hotel and got exactly the same thing, except that they offered a crummy guesthouse out in the sticks as an alternative. Only then did I discover just what sort of rep the place had.
It then took them a very long time to refund my credit card.
Sadly, this scam seems common to a number of central Edinburgh hotels, not just Apex.0 -

I work for Apex Hotels and noticed your comment. I am very sorry that you have experienced these problems and would be more than happy to look into it further if you could email your full name and booking details to website@apexhotels.co.uk.
I'm not sure what happened as Apex Waterloo Place Hotel has been operated by Apex Hotels ever since its opening in 2009, and has a great reputation on TripAdvisor and other review sites.
We take all complaints very seriously and apologise for the inconvenience caused.
Kind Regards,

hi there
i have stayed in both these hotels however we did have a problem in the apex city we had a bottle of vodka in our room and after being out for the day we opened it only to find it had been replaced with water we called the manager who took it away to check it he confirmed that it was very watered down and promised a full investigation and we never heard anything else this was a good few years ago which did put me off staying there . having said that both hotels are very clean the food is excellent and most of the staff are lovely and if the hotel had a good deal i would go back as the location is fantastic0 -

Thanks for the follow-up and I do hope practices like this don't happen anymore.
I no longer use the email that I originally booked-on (killed due to change in ISP) and this happened pre 2009.0
